WEEK 8
Dear Parents,
Here is a quick update from Room 12:
WWII Projects
* On Tuesday our class completed a rough draft of our title page for our WWII project. We also went over what a bibliography is used for and how we write the different components. (author, publisher, date, etc.) This information is also in the packet that each child should have. Let me know if they lost their copy.
*We will start the WWII speeches on Wednesday, October 24th. I suggest that the students practice in front of a mirror, or even video tape themselves if time permits.
*Today I went over a template for the report with the students. In this packet there is also a section on effective Thesis Statements with several good examples that relate to our report. Finally, there is a grading rubric that will help you understand my expectations and grading methods.
*The week prior to this project being due I will give less homework ;>)
Field Trips
First off, I would like to say thank you to ALL of the parents who went on the trip to the Tech Museum. It was quite a hassle with the unclear fees and organizing the trip. I appreciate all of the parents' flexibility and patience through the process. The Body Exhibit and IMAX movie were amazing and our students benefitted from this truly enriching experience and this made it all worth it.
Our next field trip is scheduled on Friday, October 26th when we will go to the Register Pajaronian Newspaper facility. This is a perfect trip because we will be creating class newspapers in the upcoming weeks. Furthermore, students in our class will have the opportunity to write articles for the school's digital newspaper. The permission slips and the parent driver forms will go home
I also scheduled a trip to the Long's Marine Lab on Friday, December 7th. More information will be coming later next month.
Canned Food Drive
Our class is also participating in a canned food drive. This gives us a chance to give to those who are less fortunate.
PARENT CONFERENCES
Please check our class blog to confirm your conference time. Let me know if this time will not work so we can reschedule.
This is truly an amazing class! Each child is motivated and enthusiastic in class and they are doing an excellent job turning in their homework. I set a high bar and these students are rising to meet the challenge. Our attendance has been very consistent, which is critical for their academic and social development. I look forward to seeing you all the week of parent-teacher conferences.
Thanks for all of your support!
Mr. Sweet

WEEKLY QUOTE
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came -
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
~George Cooper, "October's Party"
