WEEK 6

This is a picture from Dr. Ainsworth's presentation to our class on Wednesday. He is Dante's grandfather and he shared about his work with the effects of radiation and his experience during World War II. My students were very attentive and interested in what he shared. A special thank you goes out to Sue Ellen Calcagno for arranging this.

Class Update
This week we will begin our first unit in California History. In addition, we will begin a new book together entitled Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. Like Sadako, this book deals with World War II. However, this story takes place in Denmark during the Nazi occupation and the persecution of the Jews. This Friday our World War II interviews will be due. We will share these interviews together over the next couple of weeks. Furthermore, Mas Hashimoto will be presenting his slide show to our class at 10:15 a.m. and parents are invited.

This week I will be handing out our first project, which will be about World War II topics that students will choose. There will be various projects ranging from Winston Churchill, World War II Weaponry, Women of WWII, Hitler, Holocaust, to The Atom Bomb, etc. There will be a brief one-page report, speech and creative project. More information is coming soon. We will do most of the report and speech in class. Remember, you can come by anytime after school to check your child's progress in any subject. I look forward to an exciting week of learning together!
