WEEK 33

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

Class Update
In celebration of Earth Day, I would like to take our class to "Beer Can Beach" down at the end of Clubhouse to pick up trash and clean it up. On Friday, May 4th our class will bring down our lunches, pick up trash for about an hour, and eat together. I need 3 parent volunteers to walk with us. Could you please e-mail me if you are able to accompany us? We did this last year with all of the 4th grades, and found a plethora of trash. For safety, all students will be required to wear gloves.
We are one week away from the CST (California Standards Testing!! As a result, we will continue to review the standards from 4th/5th Grades. The 4th grade will do just two sections: Reading/Language Arts and Math. This will take four days, so PLEASE make sure your child is present for the testing week. This will give them the opportunity to show all that they have learned. The 5th grade students will be taking an extra section in Science.

I also sent an e-mail out to parents requesting parents to e-mail me if they do not want pictures with their children on our blog site. Please let me know a.s.a.p. because I will post them on the site this Wednesday.

In other news, I sent home the Science Investigation details and grading rubric for the Project (Poster + Speech). Please let me know if you have any questions.

Earth Day Quotes:

"Every day is Earth Day." ~Author Unknown

"Oh Beautiful for smoggy skies, insecticided grain,
For strip-mined mountain's majesty above the asphalt plain.
America, America, man sheds his waste on thee,
And hides the pines with billboard signs, from sea to oily sea."
~George Carlin

"For 200 years we've been conquering Nature. Now we're beating it to death." ~Tom McMillan, quoted in Francesca Lyman, The Greenhouse Trap, 1990

"There is hope if people will begin to awaken that spiritual part of themselves, that heartfelt knowledge that we are caretakers of this planet." ~Brooke Medicine Eagle

"And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything." ~William Shakespeare
